Arad
Arad is situated in western Romania close to the border of Hungary. The city is home of some 150.000 inhabitants and is an important industrial centre.
The approx. 50 kilometres long, metre-gauge tramway network ist operated by → CTP Arad (Compania de Transport Public Arad). A special feature is the about 20 kilometres long interurban tramway route to Ghioroc with a tram only every two hours (the waiting time is partial over three hours at the weekend!). On this route a special fare applies (as of 2014: 7 lei per journey = almost 2 euros - this is quite expensive for Romanian conditions).

Cluj-Napoca
The city of Cluj-Napoca lies in the north-west of Romania. With about 330,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in Romania after the capital Bucharest. It has an approx. 12-kilometre-long tram line, wich is served by three routes.
It is operated by → CTP Cluj-Napoca (Compania de Transport Public Cluj-Napoca). The company is also responsible for the trolleybuses and buses in the city.

Iași
The city of Iasi is located in the northeastern part of Romania about 20 kilometres from the border to Moldova and has a population of about 300,000 inhabitants.
It has a tram network with length of some 35 kilometres, which is operated by → SCTP Iași. It is the only Romanian network with metre-gauge tracks, apart from Arad.

Oradea
The city of Oradea is located in the north-west of Romania, only a few kilometres from the Hungarian border and has a population of almost 200,000. Oradea has a tram network consisting of a ring around the inner city with three branches. The route length is approx. 20 kilometres.
The public transport is operated by → OTL (Oradea Transport Local R.A.).

Craiova
The city of Craiova is located in the south of Romania about 60 kilometres from the border with Bulgaria. It has a population of 250,000, which is enough in Romania to be one of the 10 biggest cities in the country. An approximately 18 kilometre-long tram line runs through the city from north-west to south-east, which is served by three routes in some sections. The tram does not connect the railway station to the city, it is about 1.5 kilometres south.
The trams as well as the city buses are operated by → RAT (Regia Autonoma de Transport) Craiova.

Athens
The Greek capital Athens (the metropolitan area has almost 4 million inhabitants) has beside an approx. 80 kilometre long metro network also three tram routes with a length of almost 30 kilometres in the southeast of the borough. Up to the year 2000, the city had only one single underground route. Apart from that, public transport was operated exclusively with busses, which led to accordingly traffic problems. A former tram in Athens was abandoned in 1960, it was reintroduced for the Olympic Games in 2004.
The operator of the tramway and metro is called → STASY (ΣΤΑΣΥ), the buses and trolley buses are operated by the OSY (ΟΣΥ). Both cooperate in the Transportation Authority OASA (ΟΑΣΑ).
